Yup… that was us back in 2008. It was an attempt to chronicle the early days of starting a a software company. Something we did while working full-time jobs and something that we thought would be an interesting story to share. Looking back at this gives me a few laughs thinking about all of the great brainstorming conversations Jeff and I had. There are even a few references to our first app...

Apps vs the Web
If you are looking for a nice informative read on the subject of whether or not to develop a native app vs a web app… be sure to read this article by Matt Gemmell (@mattgemmell), a developer in the UK. (Thanks to @eddit for the recommendation.)
Some of my favorite key points:
Frames of interaction - “A web app (frame 1) running within a browser app (frame 2) on a smartphone device...

HOWTO: Sync Carousel saves/recents with Dropbox
Jeremy Greenwood:
Like most Mac apps, Carousel stores support files in the Application Support directory, this of course includes the file used for saves and recents. You should be able to just copy and paste the commands after each step in your Terminal application…
First quit Carousel and backup your file in case something goes wrong:
cp -r ~/Library/Application\...

Carousel and Open Source
Carousel was conceived, designed, developed and released in an eight week period between client projects. How did we pull it off? By building to our strengths and utilizing available resources. Carousel is the product of hard work by good people that work at Mobelux and hard work by good people that make open source software.
We proudly implemented these open source projects in Carousel and we...

How do you decide what to make?
It is holidays like Cinco de Mayo that usually involve hanging out, which often times brings up those random conversations about making things. Cool things. Things that everybody wants. Or at least what people think you should make for them. Since this question seems to be common in at least one form or another, I figured I would share a few related thoughts.
First, Jeff and I have always wanted...

bijan:
“the website as you know it” is “dead, dying, will be dying,” and that the future lies in reinventing Web experiences on the mobile phone.
many smart folks have been saying this for a long time and it’s so damn true.
Couldn’t agree more. A well-crafted native app redefines the user’s experience. Also enjoyed the following quote from the same article:

Benefits of having a designer that codes...
Sorry college design graduates… you should have taken a few programming classes before you walked away with your degree. But it isn’t too late… in fact, most of us never got to take those classes either. Although, it would probably be a good idea to head over to the bookstore to begin some new learning.
It is still amazing how many individuals like to separate coding and design...

Are you ready for a new baby?
One of the things we joke quite a bit about with our clients is if they are ready to add another baby to their life? Because truly, that is what owning a piece of software is. You’ll have to pay attention to it, get rid of its sicknesses, help it through its weaknesses, and help it adjust to its changing surroundings. You’ll have to help it grow and improve so that it can be happy - or...

Should I go to a Tumblr Meetup?
Absolutely! Yes. You will never find another similar technology social gathering that is the same.
Last night was another great example of how you can meet so many interesting and diverse individuals. In one night I had conversations on photography, video, news, design, software, sports, housing, jobs, and education. And it all took place in less than an hour and a half. With the common bond of...

Hey! Look what I did this weekend! →
Jamie Pinkham:
ShareKit aims to be a drop in service for pushing text, files, urls and images in iOS applications. I wrote the Tumblr “Sharer” which allows you to share images, text and urls as photo posts, text posts, and link posts.
Some limitations, however:
1. Can only post to main tumblelog.
2. Can only publish immediately (ie, no draft/queue/publish on support).
This framework is...
