iHome Connect. A different kind of app.

Recently, another one of the apps Mobelux developed went out into the world - only this one was a little bit different than your typical app. What is special about this one is that it is a utility app focused on setting up a physical device. We think that this is a new kind of app that will spawn similar apps to be used more and more as other “app-enabled” hardware devices become available on the market.

So what does iHome Connect do? It is a free app that is used with iHome’s first AirPlay speaker, the iW1. The concern was that when most customers purchased this speaker, they wouldn’t know how to easily set it up so that it could be used on their own network. So we made an app for the initial setup experience for the hardware. Now, all the customer has to do is download the free app, plug in their iOS device (iPhone, iTouch, iPad) to the speaker, and follow the step-by-step instructions to easily name their speaker and put it on their wireless network. The result? A no-headache way of setting up something you are anxious to play with on your network. The business case for this app? Resolving, or at least highly reducing, a potentially  time consuming support item for a new kind of product.
