Are you ready for a new baby?
One of the things we joke quite a bit about with our clients is if they are ready to add another baby to their life? Because truly, that is what owning a piece of software is. You’ll have to pay attention to it, get rid of its sicknesses, help it through its weaknesses, and help it adjust to its changing surroundings. You’ll have to help it grow and improve so that it can be happy - or at least so that the people who use it can be happy.
Now taking care of this new baby is something that most people aren’t really prepared for. Unlike one of your real kids, everyone is going to tell you what they don’t like about your new baby. In fact, you may not ever really know how much people liked something unless you take it away or change it. So brace yourself. Get a bit of a thick skin. Be flexible… while at the same time stay true to what your idea or purpose of your app was and is meant to be.
So when does your baby grow up? Well, some hit their “teen” phase fairly quick but often times like to permanently stay there. And those are the pretty successful apps. Others never make it out of the infant/toddler phase. But if you are really lucky, you’ll help one be around for a long time. And there is nothing like the feeling of being a proud parent.
